Welcome to another video from Gweilo 60.
You know it's probably more healthy to live in China than to live in a lot of the western countries that you think are better healthier. See when I come to China and I've been doing it for about 17 years now, I walk a lot more, I exercise a lot more, I'm out and about a lot more, see mainly most Chinese don't jump in a car and go someplace, everybody goes out, you have to walk to the subway, you have to walk to the bus stop. You see, people take public transportation here a lot more than they do in the West, everybody's got a car, sitting in your garage, go outside in the car, you drive three blocks to the grocery store you buy groceries you drive home, you go in and you eat you sit watch TV. Since I've been in China now, this last eight nine months, I haven't watched TV at all. Why bother, there's so many other things to do.
And that's just it, the Chinese are active in parks, in nightlife, and just regular work. Everybody seems to have a job, everybody is out and about and doing things. And you notice, that I notice that there are basically no fat Chinese people. You see one or two, oh, what was that, two years ago, I was gonna do a video about "searching for a fat person in China". I rode around on my E-bike for 3hrs and I finally found one fat lady, and I was looked at the video after and I thought, really bad taste Gweilo, don't do that. So I just dexed it. The moral of the story is, that you know in the U.S. or Canada you walk down the street, it's hard to find a skinny person. And here, the same thing applies for fat people. So people eat better here in China. Define better, the food tastes amazing, the variety is really wide, but what I mean by better is they eat less meat and more vegetables and fruits and things like that. So they're healthier, the portions are reasonable.
Sure, there's all-you-can-eat barbecues, all you can eat and drink. But when Chinese people go to these all you can eat and drink barbecues, they'll eat some meat they'll eat some vegetables though they'll finish it off with fruits, they might have one beer or two beers, or not even drink the alcohol that have a juice or whatever that they've got, maybe a pot or just water. In Canada, that sucker got a business a first night if me and my buddies got in there because we would drink them dry, guaranteed. All-you-can-eat-and-drink? Are you serious? For this price? But the thing is that the Chinese people aren't big drinkers. They do drink. I've seen lots of boys at 9 o'clock in the morning eat and barbecue duck and drinking baijo and you know and they're probably asleep by 2 o'clock in the afternoon. But that''s a very small minority of the people in China. Most of the people that I know, especially the hard-working people in the countryside, they're not as apt to drink as a Canadian, a Swede Ronnie yeah I'm talking about you buddy. They're not drinking like an American, they're not drinking like a Norwegian, or the Irish my god.
I know there's gonna be those guys out there, saying yeah but that place is just freakin polluted. Well, I got to give it to you, in places in China, in manufacturing zones and large cities there is a pollution problem, and this causes lung disease, cancers, things like that. And it is a problem. But you see, China is working on that now. They've got more green initiatives than anywhere else in the world. They are pushing electric vehicles. They're putting in more renewable energy sources, windmills, they've got the Three Gorges Dam, they've got the Datengxia Dam in Guangxi Province that actually is going to be the largest concrete constructed dam in the world...
They've got all of these things that they'er doing to try to hit that pollution porblem and beat it down. A country of 1.4 billion people, it's hard. You know it's one of those things that you're growing your industry, you've got manufacturing, you've got all of these things, you gotta have electricity.
Another thing I understand with the Chinese people is they like to take care of themselves. They got a problem, they run to the doctor, and that's a good thing, because it's very inexpensive here. They're more concerned about their health, while being a westerner, it's basically being like, don't worry about it'll be fine, they sort of laze out. But the Chinese are very quick if they've got a problem to go seek medical expertise, so they catch things earlier, they're more on top of things than people in the west.
So, they eat better, they exercise more, they have more active lives, they drink less... They're just basically healthier people. And you can see because I think I read it here the other day that they have a highter lifespan than Americans now, so they live longer because of the lifestyle that they live.
This place is one of those places that people are healthy, people are happy, people are content. They exercise, they have active lives, they have a good life. All of these things, just make China a nice place because if you got a bunch of people that are healthy and active, it adds to the aura of the place, makes it a funner place to be. And that's basically why I like it here, because China is a fun place to be.
