We need multiple linkages, exchanges and dialogues like this, [彭1] particularly face to face dialogue. It’s very important to have these exchanges between the business, between the people and travel. All those are really needed to keep the bridges and let them flow. Secretary Paulson, how can China-US[彭2]  business, two governments and [彭3] other countries work together to face common challenges?

I knew there are going to be tough times between our governments, Beijing and Washington DC. Now I didn’t predict it was going to be as tough as it is now, but there are going to be tough times. And I think we need other linkages, people to people linkages, economic linkages, NGOs working together, people working together to solve (problems).

我早就知道中美两国之间会遇到一些艰难的时刻，但是确实没有想到中美关系会到今天这么严峻的地步。不管怎么说，中美之间总会遇到一些困难。所以，我们需要保持更多的沟通渠道，包括人员往来、经济联系、以及非政府组织的合作等等，我们需要一起努力来解决问题。

真正的，我们面临的问题不是贸易摩擦，不是贸易制裁，不是关税问题。而是因为这个疫情，让我们不能够来往了。而且，很明显，现在能够看到，疫情之后（我们）应该是能够迅速恢复这种往来，迅速恢复这种交往。

The main problem facing us is not trade friction, [彭4] sanctions and tariffs, but the fact [彭5] that we can’t exchange with each other due to the pandemic. Obviously, we should be able to resume the exchanges and linkages between us as soon as the pandemic ends.
