会见马英九，路透社与CNN这样翻译“心结”？

10日下午，总书记在京会见马英九一行。

这场会见一直备受外界期待，外媒也第一时间进行报道。其中有句话被英文媒体广泛转引：

“两岸同胞都是中国人，没有什么心结不能化解，没有什么问题不能商量，没有什么势力能把我们分开。“（人民日报）

翻译这句话的难点在于“心结”二字。我们先来欣赏一下新华社、路透社、CNN三家媒体的译文：

People on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are all Chinese. There are no knots that cannot be untied, no issues that cannot be discussed, and no force that can separate us. (Xinhua)

Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are all Chinese people. There is no grudge that cannot be resolved, no issue that cannot be discussed and no force that can separate us. (CNN)

People on both sides of the strait are Chinese. There is no rancour that cannot be resolved, no problem that cannot be discussed, and no force that can separate us. (Reuters)

“没有什么心结不能化解”，这句话讲得比较委婉模糊。换言之，“心结”二字并未确指，具有较大的阐释空间。新华社的译法选择保留原文意象（imagery），照字面译出“no knots that cannot be untied”，以实现与原文的“等效（equivalent effect）”。

反观外媒译法，无论是CNN的“grudge”还是路透社的“rancor”，指向都比较具体（specific），确切地说都指向一种“feeling of resentment（怨恨/恶意）。“rancor”与“grudge”是同义词，但“rancor”更强烈，比“grudge”多了一分浓烈与持久。

参见《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》对二者的释义：

grudge：feeling of ill-will, envy, resentment, spite, etc 恶意; 嫉妒; 怨恨; 遗憾

rancor：deep long-lasting bitterness or ill-will; spite 深仇; 积怨; 怨恨

从词典释义也可见，“rancor”是比“grudge”更持久、更难化解的怨恨。

一个“心结”，三种译法，给英文读者的感受也必然是不一样的。

文刀君更认可新华社的译法。面对委婉模糊的政治话语，译者擅自确指化是有风险的，如果选词用词再擅自加码，则背离原文远矣！
