White House Indo-Pacific coordinator Kurt Campbell said on Tuesday that it was possible for China and United States to coexist in peace but the challenge was enormous and Beijing had become increasingly assertive.

Inclined to bold or confident assertion; aggressively self-assured.

500

...nationalists have long hoped for greater assertiveness from the country's top envoy...

The country's envoys have taken a more assertive and even belligerent tone.
