How good is healthcare in China?

Like US, based on how much people would like to pay.

Higher insurance was paid, better healthcare would be provided.

In China, like in Canada as I know, some medications and treatments are not covered in the basic health insurance. people need to buy the extra if they expect better as they need.

Probably one special in China to other’s is a connection in hospital can shorten the waiting time. But people can still get treatment in couple weeks even without connection, in Canada as I heard, it is probably couple months. This is because the huge number and scale of Chinese hospital, and huge number of doctors.

Another advantage which only Chinese doctors have is, rather than US’s, UK’s or Canada’s, Chinese doctors have 10 or 100 times practice chance on medical cases. This makes Chinese doctors have more experience and confidence on common cases, so that can shorten the time on diagnosis.

My dad had heart stent around 4 years ago, in the Asian biggest hospital(First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University - Wikipedia), it took 2 weeks to make the decision since my dad step into that hospital (in China, people walk-in instead of making an appointment and queue). this 2 weeks hospitalization included medical exams and decision making. Then at the morning the stent was placed, my dad was pushed into operating room with other 2 or 3 patients together. From 8am to around 12 or 13pm, all of them were done by a same doctor. That doctor, as I heard, made twice that kind of operation per week, only 2 half days. Her other routine includes:

meeting all walk-ing patient at office, 15 minutes/one, 2 mornings/week

visiting inpatient, 1 morning/week

checks exams result at office at random time,

a half day’s of class in medical university as a lecturer.

That’s what I know.

With inconsistent standards between rural areas and the big cities, the health care system in China has been rated as 144th in the world by the World Health Organization. The country spends 5.5% of its GDP on health and has a relatively low number of doctors (1.6 per 1,000 population).

I'm impressed by this doctor's routine, however I'm also concerned by a surgeon who may be overworked and thus inclined to making errors in their decisions during surgery or misdiagnosing a patient's ailments.

How good is healthcare in China?

I can only compare it to the American system, but I personally found it far superior… sure, there were things I didn’t like (like how there isn’t much in terms of privacy), but the care provided was good and very inexpensive compared to in America. For example, I paid only about ¥50 to see a doctor and get three months of psoriasis medicine. In the US, it would cost $500 for the same care!
